These esteemed practitioners bring a wealth of knowledge, expertise, and diverse perspectives to our program, further enhancing the academic rigor of the master’s program!
Let us introduce you to our exceptional faculty, new additions and returning experts, for the upcoming Fall semester:
Dr. Basyouny holds a Ph.D. with Honors in Da’wah and Islamic Culture from Al-Azhar University. He is currently the President and Dean of Academic Affairs at BIS. He was previously an associate professor in the Department of Islamic Creed and Da’wah at Qatar University’s Faculty of Shari’ah and Islamic Studies and a faculty member at Al-Azhar University and Islamic American University.
Teaching this Fall: IRL 511 – A Light among the People: Living the Qurʾān
Ustadha Hadia holds a Bachelor of Arts in Public Relations and a Master of Arts in Communication Studies from California State University of San Bernardino, she currently serves as a lecturer at California State University of San Bernardino and Riverside City College. She specializes in Oral Communication (public speaking), instructional communication, and rhetoric.
Teaching this Fall: IRL 722 – Public Speaking and Communication
Dr. Mohamed has a background in both Islamic studies along with science & technology. He completed his Ph.D. and Master’s in Electrical Engineering from MIT, Alimiyyah degree (License in Islamic Scholarship) from Al-Salam Institute, and multiple diploma programs at the Cambridge Islamic College. He serves as Dean of Administration at the Boston Islamic Seminary.
Teaching this Fall: IRL 712 – Islamic Leadership – Individual and Institutional
Dr. Ovamir has a Ph.D. in Islamic Intellectual History from UW-Madison. His work focuses on the nexus of theology, ethics, politics, and law in classical and medieval Islam, with a comparative interest in Western Thought. He also serves as Imam Khattab Endowed Chair of Islamic Studies at the Department of Philosophy and Religious Studies at the University of Toledo.
Teaching this Fall: IRL 523 – Islamic History & Civilization
Dr. Sahar holds a Ph.D. in Mass Media and Cultural Studies from the University of Manchester in England. She is an expert on Arab and Muslim media and the former Head of the Mass Communication and Information Science Department at Qatar University. She is the Associate Professor in the Department of Communication at the University of Maryland, College Park.
Teaching this Fall: IRL 723 – Understanding and Engaging the Media
Dr. Sami holds a Ph.D. in Chaplaincy and Qur’anic Arabic from Hartford International. He has been teaching Arabic for over 20 years. He has taught Modern Standard Arabic and Qur’anic Arabic at several colleges and universities. He is a board-certified psychiatrist with an extensive international business background. He has also taught graduate courses in Islamic Law and many other topics!
Teaching this Fall: IRL 732 – Principles of Pastoral Care
Dr. Suheil has an MA in Religious Studies from Boston University and a PhD in Arabic and Islamic Studies from Harvard University. He currently serves as Associate Professor and Lead Faculty at BIS. He has benefited from a number of teachers of traditional Islamic disciplines, in the U.S. and abroad, and has ijazahs in Islamic theology (‘aqidah), Islamic law (fiqh), hadith and other subjects.
Teaching this Fall: IRL 523 – Advanced Applied Islamic Theology (ʿAqīda)
