Marketing and Communications Specialist

Part-Time (Hybrid) | 20–25 hours per week | Salary - $25 - $28 per hour (Exempt)

Overview

The Boston Islamic Seminary (BIS) is seeking a strategic and creative Marketing and Communications Specialist to lead the Seminary’s marketing and communications efforts. This role will develop and execute BIS’s marketing strategy, strengthen its digital presence, manage social media and email communications, support digital fundraising campaigns, and use analytics to increase audience engagement, program participation, and visibility.

The ideal candidate is a strong writer and digital marketer who can translate BIS’s mission, programs, academic offerings, events, and fundraising priorities into compelling campaigns and content. The role will coordinate and manage contractors to provide direction for graphic design, video production, and where needed. 

Key Responsibilities

Marketing & Communications Strategy

  • Develop and execute BIS’s integrated marketing and communications strategy and annual content/campaign calendar, aligned with institutional, programmatic, enrollment, engagement, and fundraising goals.

  • Maintain consistent BIS branding, messaging, voice, and positioning across digital and external communications while identifying opportunities to increase visibility, audience growth, and community engagement.

Digital Content, Social Media & Email

  • Lead BIS’s digital content strategy across social media, email, website, newsletters, blogs, advertisements, and other channels, including writing, editing, scheduling, publishing, and repurposing content.

  • Manage social media and email campaigns, including audience engagement, targeted communications, paid advertising, newsletters, announcements, and fundraising appeals.

  • Collaborate with faculty and staff to identify and develop stories, student experiences, events, research, and other content that advance BIS’s mission and priorities.

Fundraising, Program & Event Marketing

  • Partner with fund development and program teams to develop and execute digital fundraising, enrollment, program, course, lecture, and event campaigns, including messaging, promotional materials, landing pages, email, social media, and digital advertising.

  • Support event marketing and coverage by coordinating content collection and identifying opportunities to repurpose photos, video, testimonials, recordings, and other existing materials.

Website, SEO & Performance Analytics

  • Manage and optimize website content, landing pages, SEO, and digital visibility to ensure BIS communications are accurate, accessible, current, and user-friendly.

  • Monitor website, social media, email, and campaign performance using analytics tools; establish KPIs, report results, and use data and testing to continuously improve engagement, participation, visibility, and fundraising outcomes.

Collaboration & Project Management

  • Provide marketing guidance to leadership, faculty, admissions, programs, administration, and fund development; manage multiple campaigns and deadlines while maintaining quality and consistency.

  • Coordinate designers, videographers, marketing vendors, and other contractors as needed to deliver creative assets aligned with campaign objectives, brand standards, and timelines.

  • Stay current on digital marketing, social media, SEO, email marketing, and nonprofit communications trends.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, Digital Marketing, or a related field preferred.
  • 3+ years of experience in marketing, communications, digital marketing, social media, nonprofit communications, or a related field.
  • Demonstrated experience developing and executing marketing strategies and campaigns.
  • Excellent copywriting, editing, storytelling, and communication skills.
  • Experience managing social media platforms and digital content.
  • Experience with digital fundraising and/or nonprofit fundraising communications strongly preferred.
  • Experience with SEO, website content management, email marketing, and digital analytics.
  • Familiarity with Google Analytics/GA4, Google Search Console, Meta/Facebook advertising, Google Ads, and email marketing platforms.
  • Strong analytical, project management, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a remote environment.
  • Familiarity with graphic design and video production workflows
  • Experience with Canva, Adobe Creative Suite, or similar tools is a plus.
  • Understanding of accessibility and inclusive digital communications.
