(لَقَدْ رَأَىٰ مِنْ ءَايَـٰتِ رَبِّهِ ٱلْكُبْرَىٰٓ) (58:18)

Reflecting on and honoring past Islamic events allows us to better understand our world and the challenges we face. In these turbulent times, where spiritual, moral, social, and political guidance is being sought, the journey of Isrā and Mi‘rāj stands out as a beacon of guidance and inspiration.
Although the story of Isrā and Mi‘rāj is well known, examining it with a fresh perspective relevant to our current circumstances can yield transformative lessons. As we work towards upholding truth and justice, elevating our communities, and contributing meaningfully to society, the journey of Isrā and Mi‘rāj can serve as a roadmap toward noble aspirations.
Isrā and Mi‘rāj took place a decade after the Prophet Muhammad’s prophethood ﷺ began. During this miraculous journey, Allah (SWT) opened the heavens to the Prophet, allowing direct communion and conversation. The Prophet was honored by leading prayers alongside past prophets at Masjid Al-Aqṣā, among other divine manifestations, underlining the significance of this encounter.
Today, as we yearn for closeness to Allah and divine intervention in alleviating the condition of the ummah, we echo the Prophet’s ﷺ longing to pray at Masjid Al-Aqṣā and witness the signs of Allah’s grace.
Allah’s timing in bestowing the reward of Isrā and Mi‘rāj upon the Prophet ﷺ highlights the value of certain actions in receiving r divine favor and support. The Prophet’s ﷺ unwavering commitment to spreading Islam despite adversity, his fervent supplication to Allah, and his resilience in the face of trials were pivotal in earning this divine reward.
From the Prophet’s ﷺ journey and subsequent reward, three fundamental principles emerge:
1. Persistence and determination in conveying the message of Islam despite obstacles and opposition are crucial for earning Allah’s support and guidance. Allah says: ”O believers! If you help Allah’s [cause], He will help you and make your steps firm” (Q.47:7)
2. Sincere supplication (duʿā) and constant communication with Allah are indispensable tools for believers seeking divine assistance. Allah says: “So he invoked his Lord, “Indeed, I am overpowered, so help” (Q.54:10)
3. Endurance through trials and tribulations, coupled with steadfastness in upholding the principles of Islam, are means for gaining divine favor and victory. Allah says:” [They continued] until, when the messengers despaired and were certain that they had been denied, there came to them Our victory, and whoever We willed was saved. And Our punishment cannot be repelled from the people who are criminals” (Q.12:110).
The Prophet ﷺ and his companions exemplified these principles, enduring persecution and hardship with unwavering faith. Their steadfastness ultimately led to divine intervention and the spread of truth and justice.
Allah’s promise of ease following hardship is a testament to the transformative power of perseverance and faith. By emulating the Prophet’s ﷺ example and adhering to these principles, we too can earn Allah’s favor and witness some of His signs.
