Biography

Dr. Mustafa Qasim is the first American scholar to be awarded a PhD in Islamic Law from Umm Al Qura University in Makkah, after successfully defending his dissertation on the Principles and Guidelines of Islamic Jurisprudence as Mentioned in the Writings of Ibn al Qayyim, written in the Arabic language. In addition to his doctoral degree, he holds a higher diploma in judgement, a master’s of Islamic studies, a master’s of science in criminal justice, and a master’s of business administration.
Dr. Qasim has previously taught courses in Islamic finance, psychology, and communications studies at Effat University in Jeddah, business courses at Niagara College, Makkah, and various Islamic studies courses online. 

Dr. Qasim has worked at the Grand Mosque in Makkah as a translator, field guide, and in the live fatwa department. He was the lead English language caller to Islam at the Dawah Imam center, under the supervision of Shaykh Dr. Abdurrahman As-Sudeis, Imam of Al-Masjid Al-Haraam, where he officiated and facilitated the entrance of hundreds of people in to the Islamic religion.

Dr. Qasim is currently the imam at a large state prison on Massachusetts where he leads prayers, gives Friday sermons, supervises Quranic memorization, and provides counseling, educational, and program services to incarcerated individuals, staff, and families.
