Workshop: Women’s Speech in the Qur’an: A Detailed Study of 33 Verses

When: Will be announced soon!
Location:  ONLINE ONLY

The Qur’an contains 33 verses that include the speech of women or girl figures. This two-day workshop will hone in on this selection of verses in order to better understand overarching Qur’anic themes. The workshop is open to any student of the Qur’an. The workshop will be conducted in English, but we will also refer to Qur’anic verses in their original Arabic language.

Students will gain a better understanding of Qur’anic themes through examining the verses of the Qur’an that contain female speech.

Learning Outcomes:

At the end of the workshop, students will be able to offer linguistic, structural, and/or conceptual analysis of Qur’anic verses containing women’s speech and will better understand how these select verses relate to overarching Qur’anic themes involving gender, piety, and Islamic sacred history.
