Operations and Development Manager (ODM)

Full-Time (On-Site), Part-Time (Remote)

Overview

The Boston Islamic Seminary (BIS) is searching for a committed Operations and Development Manager (ODM) to manage and oversee the various functions of the Operations and Development. This dynamic role involves handling daily operations, finances, accounting, fundraising initiatives, project management, and donor engagement.  The ODM is responsible for creating and implementing a strategy for identifying, qualifying, cultivating, soliciting and stewarding donors. The ODM is responsible for a resource development operation which supports The BIS’s mission and programs, building on existing advancement efforts and successfully pursuing new opportunities to grow funding and engagement. The ODM works closely with the Boston Islamic Seminary (BIS) leadership team, faculty, and students to ensure smooth operations and create a positive environment for everyone involved. The ideal candidate should possess excellent multitasking skills, proactively identify and prevent problems, and display unwavering confidence and composure under pressure. Exceptional interpersonal skills are vital to building fruitful relationships during regular interactions in this significant role.

Key Responsibilities

General:

  • Provide visionary leadership to the Operations and Development departments, aligning their efforts with the Seminary’s mission and strategic goals.
  • Provide expert project management support for pivotal initiatives within the Operations and Development departments.
  • Coordinate cross-functional project teams to accomplish objectives within set timelines.
  • Proactively identify potential challenges and strategically implement preventive measures.
  • Demonstrate exemplary communication and interpersonal skills.

Operations (25%):

  • Oversee and manage daily operations, encompassing financial management and accounting.
  • Ensure the seamless functioning of all departments and teams.
  • Lead financial activities, including budgeting, financial reporting, taxes and audits, and comprehensive accounting.
  • Address operational issues with unwavering confidence and efficiency as they arise.

Development (75%):

  • Develop and implement high-impact fundraising strategies, in-person events, and online fundraising campaigns to bolster the Seminary’s growth and financial sustainability.
  • Recruit and manage volunteers and other team members as needed to execute fundraising events. 
  • Cultivate and nurture relationships with donors, sponsors, Islamic centers, mosques, and other institutional partners of the Seminary.
  • Execute donor relations plan to support BIS’s fundraising efforts, including responding to donor concerns and/or requests, gift acknowledgments, program information, and stewardship.
  • Manage CRM to streamline donor and stakeholder communication, effectively track fundraising efforts, and enhance donor engagement.
  • Effectively manage development systems, processes, and data to monitor, project, and guide fundraising results and activities and create reports to present to the President and Board.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field (e.g., Business Administration, Finance, or a related discipline); advanced degree preferred.
  • Prior experience in operations, fundraising, grants, or related domains is highly advantageous.
  • Capacity to maintain grace under high-pressure circumstances.
  • Outstanding organizational and communication skills.
  • Proficiency in relevant software applications and tools, such as Kindful, Populi, GSuite, and ClickUp; or other donor CRMs, learning management systems, and project management systems.
  • An unwavering commitment to the Seminary’s mission and values.

The salary range is $68,000 USD to $75,000 USD, based on qualifications and experience.
