Boston Islamic Seminary (BIS) seeks to hire a full-time Assistant or Associate Professor of Islamic Studies and Sciences to teach in both our Master of Islamic Religious Leadership (MIRL) and non-degree programs. Relevant areas of specialization include Qur’an, hadith, fiqh, ‘aqida, among others. 

Reporting to the Dean of Academic Affairs, the successful candidate will be an expert in his/her field and bring to BIS not only demonstrated teaching skills but also a background in or willingness to embrace higher education administration. The candidate must be committed to the BIS mission of preparing American Muslim leaders for compassionate service to society, to ensuring the Seminary fulfills its mission, and to promoting its values.

• Teach up to five courses each academic year to be determined in consultation with the Dean of Academic Affairs.
• Maintain professional memberships as appropriate to the field of expertise.
• Provide academic advising and support to students.
• Ensure academic programs consistently provide quality education to meet the highest standards of academic excellence.
• Participate in developing curriculum and syllabi for BIS programs, in partnership with the academic advisory committee as applicable.
• Study and recommend new developments and trends in education to ensure the graduate program stays consistent with the best methods of religious leadership education.
• Improve faculty orientation to promote a culture of learning and academic excellence.
• Serve on academic committees or working groups as assigned by the Dean of Academic Affairs.
• Work with the Student Affairs and Admissions Manager to improve admissions standards and processes 
• Represent the Seminary positively to prospective students and the wider community
• Participate in the administration of other academic affairs as requested.

• PhD degree from an accredited university in Islamic Studies, Islamic Sciences, or related field. 
• Higher education teaching experience, with preference in traditional Islamic educational systems.

• Experience advising, counseling, and supervising students.
• Experience with curriculum and program development.
• Ability to lead and develop interpersonal relationships across diverse groups, cultures, and communities. 
• Strong oral and written communication skills. 
• Commitment to serving the American Muslim community.

• This is a full-time, benefits-eligible position.
• This position will be remote until on-campus operations resume.
• Candidates must be authorized to work in the United States; visa sponsorship is not available
