Title:  Technology Lead (Part-Time)


The Boston Islamic Seminary is seeking a Technology Lead who can support our existing systems and help upgrade the Seminary’s systems as we grow, researching and adding new software to our technology stack.  We are currently expecting that this will be a part-time role.


  • Reports to: Executive Director
  • Ensure the seamless maintenance and operations of our existing systems including
    • Being available to resolve bugs, issues, downtime, etc.
    • Updating, patching and upgrading our existing system
  • Plan and execute projects to enhance the existing technology infrastructure of the seminary, including
    • Evaluating, selecting, installing and maintaining an online learning platform and other tools to improve our operations, security, backup and maintenance processes
    • Working with staff, volunteers and others to understand business requirements and translating these requirements into system recommendations
    • Customizing and/or integration of systems for ease of use such as:
      • MailChimp or an alternative eMarketing tool; Facebook; WordPress Website; NetSuite; Moodle
      • Other Systems as required
    • Working with front-end designers and others in the upgrade of our website
    • Evaluating our existing back end systems against other options suited specifically for higher education, and recommending a path forward
  • Support faculty and students during online courses, to be launched in 2018
  • Provide training and training material on our technology tools and system to the staff, faculty and students as appropriate
  • Document and maintain IT operations and procedures
  • Salary will be commensurate with experience



  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering or a related field and 5-6 years working experience
  • Familiarity with systems mentioned above
  • Some development experience, preferably in PHP
  • Ability to handle confidential/sensitive information
  • Detail-oriented and systematic, able to establish and follow a process to completion
  • Excellent people skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team atmosphere
  • Excellent trouble-shooting and problem solving abilities
  • Positive attitude
