Overview

The Boston Islamic Seminary is an institution of higher education that aims to train religious leaders who will serve the American Muslim community, and to enhance the understanding of Islam in the contemporary context among people of all backgrounds. As an Islamic seminary, Boston Islamic Seminary’s is open to students without regard to race or national origin. Prospective students may visit the Seminary by making arrangements in advance with the Director of Admissions. The visit could include meeting faculty members, attendance at classes, participation in the liturgy, and/or informal discussions with seminarians. Preliminary visits such as these are not considered part of the admissions procedure for the Seminary, but they may prove helpful to the applicant.

Certificate Programs

The Boston Islamic Seminary (BIS) Certificate Programs provide focused training under the tutelage of our expert faculty. Certificates range from 50 to 300 hours of classroom instruction and experiential training and are designed to give participants opportunities to develop valuable knowledge and skills in a variety of fields of study. A BIS certificate can enhance one’s professional and/or academic skill set and credentials as well as provide the spiritual upliftment that comes from studying and applying sacred knowledge in a community of seekers of knowledge. The admissions committee reads applications holistically to identify those applicants who have the ability, interest, and maturity to manage the rigors of the program, as well as the potential for future scholarly and professional growth and effective service to the community.

Tuition & Fees

The Boston Islamic Seminary offers competitive tuition rates when considered against other non-degree academic programs offered by a variety of institutions throughout the country. Standard tuition is $400 per course/program.

Financial Aid

The Boston Islamic Seminary is committed to providing quality instruction to all, regardless of financial circumstances, through a generous financial aid program. Please note that the financial aid application deadline is one week before the start-date of any given course. Financial aid is offered on a first-come, first-serve basis until available funds are exhausted. Please apply as early as possible to increase your chances of being awarded. Boston Islamic Seminary admits students of any race, color, and national or ethnic origin.

Fellowship Programs

The Boston Islamic Seminary (BIS) Fellowship Programs are designed to give students and professionals an opportunity—lasting anywhere from a few months to several years—to learn, reflect, and implement their knowledge practically in communal and professional settings connected to their field of specialization. BIS fellows engage with renowned scholars, cultivate companionship, and, with the help of enthusiastic faculty members, build a dynamic community of driven and well-grounded Muslims to serve the Muslim community and American society at large.
