Accreditation Status:

Boston Islamic Seminary is not yet accredited. We are currently assembling the documents required to apply for Degree Granting Authority through the Massachusetts Department of Education.  This process requires several months to complete – and successful completion will make us eligible for independent accreditation.

The Seminary plans to seek accreditation through the New England Association of Schools and Colleges (NEASC), the organization that accredits all mainstream educational institutions in Greater Boston such as Harvard University and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

Accreditation is a long process -that requires five to seven years after the launch of a full-time program at any institution; we therefore expect to gain full accreditation in 2023 or soon thereafter, insha-Allah.

About the Seminary

According to a NPR survey, there are more than 2,100 mosques in the United States but they have a challenge – there aren’t enough imams or spiritual leaders, especially those who realize the challenges of a Muslim American today, to go around. BIS was established to address the gap in qualified American Muslim religious leaders. BIS is also the first Islamic Seminary in the U.S. to receive the authority to award the Masters of Islamic Religious Leadersrhip (MIRL) degree.
